Telescopic Drawer Systems: A Buyer’s Guide for Modular Kitchens
Learn how telescopic slides and drawer systems differ by load rating, extension length, and soft-close — so your kitchen drawers stay smooth for years.
Drawer systems vs. basic channel slides
A telescopic drawer system is more than two metal channels. Premium systems combine precision slides, soft-close or push-to-open mechanisms, and synchronised runners that keep drawers aligned under load. In modular kitchens, poor slides show up quickly: drawers stick when full of cookware, or sag under utensils and grocery weight.
Pravira drawer systems are selected for residential and project work across Maharashtra and pan-India dealers. Specifying correctly at the design stage is cheaper than replacing channels after cabinet installation.
Load rating: the number that protects your cabinets
Every telescopic slide carries a dynamic load rating — the weight it can carry while opening and closing repeatedly. Kitchen drawers holding steel tiffin boxes, pressure cookers, or cutlery trays need higher ratings than a shallow stationery drawer in a study desk.
Under-rating slides is a common cause of early failure. When preparing a bill of quantities, list which drawers will carry heavy cookware and specify heavy-duty telescopic systems for those positions. Pravira consultants routinely upgrade base-unit drawers for contractors who previously used light-duty channels.
- Light / medium — shallow drawers, spice trays, linen
- Heavy-duty — pots, pans, grocery storage, deep base units
- Extra-wide drawers — may need twin-slide or specialised synchronised systems
Full extension vs. partial extension
Full-extension slides let you pull the drawer box completely clear of the carcass so you can reach items at the back. Partial-extension leaves a portion inside. For Indian modular kitchens where deep base units store large vessels, full extension improves daily usability and reduces the habit of yanking drawers roughly.
Soft-close drawers add controlled return on the last few centimetres of travel. Push-to-open variants suit handle-less contemporary kitchens popular with architects working on premium apartments.
Installation tolerances that decide longevity
Even excellent slides fail if side gaps and carcass squareness are wrong. Carpenters should check parallel runner mounting, screw length versus panel thickness, and that soft-close dampers are not obstructed by drawers bottoms or wiring.
Pravira publishes catalogue guidance with each drawer system family. For large projects, request a sample set for one mock-up kitchen before production runs — a practice adopted by many Amravati and Nagpur contractors we supply.
How to specify an order
Provide drawer width ranges, carcass depth, soft-close preference, and expected load. We will map SKUs from the current Pravira product catalogue, share lead times for Amravati stock and interstate dispatch, and quote dealer pricing for bulk quantities.
Download the product catalogue from the Catalogues page, or email support@pravira.co.in with your project list. Showroom demos of telescopic motion are available Monday–Saturday at our Amravati location.
